There's a new item in the Controller 7 Store. "The Lost Tapes (1997-1998)" is a collection of the better moments from my first two demo tapes. I made these beats between 1997 and 1998. I was young and pretty naive, but I was having fun. People have asked me if I would ever re-release those tapes, but I never had any interest in them since I thought they weren't all that good. I recently listened to one of the cassettes and thought it was kind of fun. The music isn't revolutionary and it's not what I would consider my best work, but I think it's interesting to listen to as a comparison to where I am now. It's a snapshot of me (fresh out of high school) and my sampler. The cd is limited to 100 copies and features 24 tracks, including two bonus beats that I had completely forgotten about. The tracks were re-recorded directly from the master DAT tapes, so they sound a lot better than the cassettes I made back then. There were only about 30 copies of the first demo tape and about 70 of the second one, so for most people this will be the first time hearing any of these beats.

Brian Coleman has a new book out called Check the Technique and it is an expansion of his earlier book entitled Rakim Told Me. Check The Technique is 500 pages of stories about classic hip hop albums, told in the words of the artists. Brian is a super nice guy and the book is a great read, so pick it up. It's available at Amazon, Turntable Lab, and probably a whole bunch of other places. Ever wonder where that piano came from on The Bridge is Over? It's full of answers to questions like that, so start reading.

The C7 Store now has t-shirts in stock. They are available in size Small through XXL. You can pick one up here at the Controller 7 Store.

There will be a free Controller 7 show in Chicago on Friday April 13th. The show will be at the Black Beetle and will also feature Scott Matelic (dj set) and DJ Intel (dj set). It will basically be a megamix/dj set of my own material. Come by, have some drinks, and say hello.

The Bozo Geeko Blends ep is now available in the Controller 7 Store. Get your dance on.

Every now and then I throw up something as a free mp3. This time it's an mp3 of a song that I didn't really have much to do with. I was going to do a remix of "Mouthful" for the Themselves No Music remix record a few years ago, but I had a hard time getting anything to work. I asked my friend Matt aka Matth to see if he could come up with something. He worked really hard on it and I think it's a nice little song. I ended up making the second part of the song, which is not included in this mp3, but I helped Matt mix the first part of the song and did a few little edits here and there. This is a Matth production though, it pretty much has nothing to do with me. Matth is the man. If you were to ask either of us, remixing that song was a complete nightmare. Anyways, Matt did a nice job and here is an instrumental version of the song to prove it. You can download the song here......
Mouthful Remix Instrumental produced by Matth

Get it while you can, because it won't be up forever.

Phewwww. Just finished a new project. I even ran to the post office to mail it out to get mastered. It's a bit of a secret as to what the project is right now, but it should be out in about 2 months if everything goes well. It's not a regular Controller 7 project, but more of a side project. Stay tuned.

Times are changing. Hopefully this next year will be full of Controller 7 related releases. I'm turning over a new leaf. I will try not to be so lazy and picky in the future.

There is a new Controller 7 song up at myspace. You can check it out here. It's called Rope On A Dope and it's from the Sneak Move mini compilation, which was mentioned below. Hopefully the vinyl will be in soon.

I just submitted a song called "Rope On A Dope" for the next Sneak Move mini compilation. The idea is to have a variety of artists contribute a complete song that is 65 seconds or less in legth. You can check out the first compilation HERE. I have no idea when it will come out, but I am assuming it won't be for at least 2-3 months.

There are two new items over at the Controller 7 store. The repress of the "expansions" ep is finally here. We only have limited quantities, so act quick. The second, and final, run of the Pop mini cd is also available. There are only 50 available. Once those are gone, that's it.

If you happened to catch Controller 7 opening up for Jel at Bottom of the Hill and would like to see more C7 live appearances, let us know. Drop us an email. Hopefully there will be more shows in the near future. If you would like to book a show, feel free to send an email.

If all goes according to plan, there will be a few more releases by the end of the year, including the third Bully EP and the 3 ep compilation cd. Keep your eyes open.

11/14/05

It looks like "Egg" is sold out. You might be able to find a copy somewhere if you do some research. If you missed out, don't worry, "Egg," "expansions," and a new ep will all be released on one cd sometime next year. There will probably be some extra bonuses on the cd as well. "expansions" will also be re-issued on vinyl sometime soon. When the new ep is finished, the cd with all of the eps will come out at the same time.

The Bumps mix cd is temporarily out of print. You might be able to get a copy in Japan, but all of the ones here in the US are gone. There will be a second pressing at some point in the near future.

In other news, you can catch Controller 7 doing a very relaxed dj set at Madrone Lounge this Wednesday from 9 to 11. Madrone is hosting the release party for the new issue of Versus Magazine, which has an article on me. Stop by if you can. It should be a fun time. I'll be playing some soul, some of my own stuff, and a nice amount of feel good hip hop.

9/24/05

Egg is pretty much sold out, so if you think you want a copy you need to buy one soon. There should still be a few copies left at some online shops and maybe even your own local record store.

it looks like there will be a re-issue of the "expansions" ep in a few months. It will be screened on a different color cover, but the music will be the same. This will most likely be the last chance to get it on vinyl.

8/5/05

The new Controller 7 "Egg" double 7 inch EP is out and is hitting stores. It's made it to some online spots and should be making to to distributors and record stores soon. 4 all new songs, each with it's own style. There are actually a little less than 1000 of these, so act quick.

You can find it at the Ninja Tune online store, Boomkat, and it should be at Turntable Lab very soon.

Revolver will be doing some of the distribution, so if you don't see it at your favorite store, tell them to order it from them.

The EP has already been named Single of the Week over at Boomkat.

8/4/05

Stylus Magazine named the Bumps mix "Album of the Week." Click here to read article.

Bumps also got the second highest rating of the year over at Cokemachineglow.

You can still pick up a copy at the Controller 7 store.

4/11/05

The Bumps mix cd is now available. It will be available at some other stores in the future, but for now, this is the only place to get it. Lot's of records, lots of fun.

Hop on over to the store to pick up your copy now.

The first official Controller 7 mix cd has been finished and sent off to some very nice people in Japan. "Bumps" will be released through We nod. I am not exactly sure if any copies will be available in US stores, but you can always get a copy from the We nod site. "Bumps" is a fun little cut and paste project that I had been working on in my spare time. The mix does not feature any of my own music, but it is kind of like my own take on songs I like. It is basically all hip hop from the mid '80s to the early '90s. You'll find everything from Spyder-D to De La Soul to Stezo to G Rap to T La Rock to Volume 10. It has plenty of album cuts and b-sides plus a bunch of favorites and some remixes. It is going off to press soon and it should be available for purchase in February.

Also in the February/March range keep an eye out for a new Controller 7 Ep. It will be released as a double 7-inch on Bully Records.
